Sonny Bonani,

4

:

Sonny Bonani, my friends.

5

:

Welcome to the Creative Spiritual

Journey podcast, where Gia and I walk

6

:

with you for just a moment and share the

joys and wonders along this marvelous

7

:

journey I'm Judy Cooley, also known

as Sister Cooley, serving with my

8

:

boyfriend Elder Cooley in the Durban

South Africa mission for the Church

9

:

of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

10

:

Today is day 553.

11

:

Can you believe it?

12

:

We've been numbering the

nd,:

13

:

You can follow our journey

on Instagram or Facebook.

14

:

Because I post something

we experience every day.

15

:

I love South Africa.

16

:

She has stolen my heart, so

I started with some is Zulu.

17

:

That's knock, knock.

18

:

Sunny Bonani.

19

:

No, hello to everyone in the house.

20

:

Well, let me start off by sharing some

amazing news for the Cooley family.

21

:

Our youngest son and his

wife had a baby girl.

22

:

Her name is River June.

23

:

Isn't that sweet?

24

:

It was a pretty intense labor and

delivery, She was laboring over 50

25

:

hours and a couple hours of pushing.

26

:

Ah, that makes it more than a triathlon.

27

:

This sweetheart deserves a

gold medal, don't you think?

28

:

It was pretty intense.

29

:

And we didn't realize the

severity of it, I believe,

30

:

until after it was all finished.

31

:

But that Little Darling

River just was a champion.

32

:

And I really believe Guardian angels

were helping them and answer to prayers.

33

:

'cause I know I was praying

every hour on the hour because

34

:

of the complications that set in.

35

:

but Little River June is here

and she's perfect, and so

36

:

precious and such a joy to see.

37

:

Shane and Bree as parents.

38

:

I'm so proud of them and I know

Heavenly Father heard our prayers

39

:

and sent angels to help them.

40

:

This is our second grandchild born.

41

:

While we've been on Mission, our

hter had a son back in May of:

42

:

just five months into our mission.

43

:

Oh boy, that was rough.

44

:

I think I cried for

like two weeks straight.

45

:

It was so hard to keep my heart here.

46

:

In fact, I'm pretty sure it

flew home leaving me here.

47

:

But you know, when we get home, this

little guy is gonna be 18 months old.

48

:

Can you believe it?

49

:

We've missed out on all the baby

phase, but we're gonna make up for

50

:

it big time when we return home

and get to know these two, and we

51

:

get to love and squeeze on them.

52

:

So this episode I've titled Knock, knock.

53

:

Let me first tell you of an experience

I just recently had after the

54

:

restless night of waiting to hear

about our granddaughter's birth.

55

:

As I was so concerned.

56

:

I woke up with what I call my wrestle

with God, or sometimes wondering if

57

:

it's wrestle with demons in my head.

58

:

But this is not unusual for me.

59

:

The fears, the uncertainties.

60

:

I'm not good enough.

61

:

I pray for help and guidance

and strength, forgiveness.

62

:

But that morning Eric also woke

up and said, I am troubled,

63

:

troubled about what's happening

and not happening here on mission.

64

:

We tried to talk about it and seek

solutions, but the more we stayed

65

:

there, the heavier the trouble seemed.

66

:

So we got up and started our

day with our personal studies.

67

:

Eric was reading the Book of Mormon one

Nephi chapter:

68

:

family are all ready to take their journey

into the wilderness and Father Lehigh

69

:

awakes and steps outside his tent to find,

quote, a brass ball of curious workmanship

70

:

with two spindles that point the way

where they are to go into the wilderness.

71

:

It's like a heaven sent compass.

72

:

A miracle, right?

73

:

It is said in Miah one 16 that this is a

lehon, which they called the brass ball.

74

:

It worked according to

their faith and diligence.

75

:

Anyway, back to our story.

76

:

So Eric asked me, who do

you think delivered the

77

:

Lehon to Lehigh's tent door?

78

:

Interesting question.

79

:

Something I've never thought about.

80

:

Of course, it was an angels sent by God.

81

:

I thought probably a scout master

because they're always prepared or a

82

:

mother because she knows that they need

these kind of things on their journey.

83

:

I actually, I don't know, but

it was kind of fun to imagine.

84

:

Then we began our companion study,

which we do from the Come Follow me.

85

:

For the week, I opened up the Come

Follow Me manual, the actual book.

86

:

Well, Eric opened up his gospel library

on the phone and he began to read and

87

:

I said, whoa, where are you reading?

88

:

Because what he was reading

wasn't printed in the manual.

89

:

We compared, and sure enough, there was

an added section that was missing from

90

:

the book, and that message was exactly.

91

:

What we needed.

92

:

It was amazing.

93

:

It was as if those angels heard our

prayers that morning and send us a

94

:

direct answer through the gospel app.

95

:

It answered our fears, our

doubts, and our prayers.

96

:

We read it twice because

we were in such awe.

97

:

It asked, have you ever felt

weary with all the well-doing

98

:

you're trying to accomplish?

99

:

Let me read from my study

journal what I jotted down.

100

:

Personal Leo experience.

101

:

I felt the Holy Ghost bear witness to me.

102

:

That message was like.

103

:

Our Leon Hona placed at our tent door.

104

:

There was also a video from Elder

Reland be not wearing while doing.

105

:

He made three suggestions.

106

:

One, make sure what you are

doing is necessary and in

107

:

accordance to what God asks.

108

:

The purpose of God cannot be frustrated.

109

:

Then why am I frustrated?

110

:

The work of God cannot be frustrated.

111

:

This is his work.

112

:

So why am I fretting and

wrestling with my demons?

113

:

Two, God does not expect

perfect performance.

114

:

He asks for.

115

:

Our heart and willing mind,

he asked for a commitment.

116

:

Three comparison makes us weary.

117

:

Stop comparing.

118

:

God just wants our willingness,

our heart and mind.

119

:

So who delivered that?

120

:

Of course it was the Holy Spirit.

121

:

So what I learned is that

when we ask, seek and knock on

122

:

heaven's door, God will answer.

123

:

And you might find a lehon

at your doorstep to guide

124

:

you through your wilderness.

125

:

There is an African proverb, the one

who asks questions, never gets lost.

126

:

Ah.

127

:

Sometimes I feel lost.

128

:

I'm at a loss of what to say or

do even what to ask God in prayer.

129

:

Sometimes my will, thy will.

130

:

I want to exercise.

131

:

Faith.

132

:

Jesus taught us in 35, 27 verse 29.

133

:

and now I go unto the father

and verily I say unto you,

134

:

whatsoever things you shall ask.

135

:

The Father in my name shall be giving you.

136

:

Therefore ask and you shall receive.

137

:

Knock and it shall be open unto you.

138

:

For he that asks receiveth and unto him

that knock it, it shall be open unto you.

139

:

So this is a formula.

140

:

There are dozens of scriptures

you'll find where the Lord

141

:

invites us to ask, seek and knock.

142

:

This is a divine formula to receiving

personal revelation, answer to prayers,

143

:

guidance for just your day in the

wilderness, and even to find the

144

:

hidden treasures, the mysteries of God.

145

:

Spencer w Kimball said There are too

many people who expect the Lord to open

146

:

the door without their even knocking.

147

:

He has given us this formula to seek,

knock, ask, repent, serve, and all

148

:

will be given, all asking and seeking.

149

:

I'm comfortable with and knowing

how to go about that, but I'm

150

:

got curious about how one knocks.

151

:

And then I read that anciently knocking,

, in the Hebrew sense meant at the

152

:

temple, only the worthy could approach

the inner sanctuary, the holy place of

153

:

holy, of Holies to knock, metaphorically

meant asking for God's presence,

154

:

seeking entrance into sacred space.

155

:

I also discovered that in the Egyptian

ary text, which is from the Book of

156

:

the Dead, the deceased was envisioned

as approaching gates or doors that ha

157

:

must be open to pass into the afterlife.

158

:

The dead often had to recite proper words.

159

:

Or names to gain entry showing

that they were worthy and prepared.

160

:

So symbolically knocking request

entry into divine realms where the

161

:

gods and gatekeepers guarded these

doors, one had to humbly seek passage.

162

:

I love that there is an ancient

ritual for knocking, whether

163

:

it was Hebrew or the Egyptians.

164

:

For me, this all had a familiar

ring to it of our temple.

165

:

Do you see the common thread, the truth

of this principle of action to knock

166

:

at heaven's door so we can enter into

sacred spaces to receive light and

167

:

grace and peace by conversing with.

168

:

For God in prayer and entering into

his presence, our missionaries knock

169

:

on doors, which here in South Africa is

a lot easier in the townships because

170

:

in the city there's Tall walls, barbed

wire, electric fences, and big dogs

171

:

standing between them and the door.

172

:

That's pretty symbolic.

173

:

What barriers.

174

:

Have we built up in our lives that make

it hard to get to the door to knock?

175

:

Or can that angel deliver a personal

Leona to your door when there's walls

176

:

and barb wire around your heart?

177

:

Remember the old painting that

used to hang probably in your

178

:

church of Jesus knocking at the

door and there was no door knob.

179

:

symbolizing we are the ones to

open the door to let him in.

180

:

I'm bothered by the thought of what

am I so busy doing, that I'm not

181

:

hearing the knock or what walls do I

have up or can't even get to the door?

182

:

In my search for knocking, I found

this beautiful poem by Harriet Beecher.

183

:

Ow.

184

:

Now I know Harriet Beecher ow

because of her novel Uncle Tom's

185

:

Cabin, which is one of my favorites.

186

:

And if you haven't read

it, I highly recommend it.

187

:

It enlightened me.

188

:

and it enlightened the nation.

189

:

At that time, she exposed the brutal

realities of slavery That stirred strong

190

:

anti-slavery sentiment in the North.

191

:

In fact, I love this according to

a tradition, when President Abraham

192

:

Lincoln met Harriet Beecher Sto

during the American Civil War, he's

193

:

believed to have greeted her with,

so you're the little woman who wrote

194

:

the book that started this great war.

195

:

So she has a beautiful poem

called Knocking Behold.

196

:

I stand at the door and knock.

197

:

Knocking.

198

:

Knocking.

199

:

Ever Knocking, who was there?

200

:

to the pilgrim.

201

:

Strange and kingly never was seen before.

202

:

Ah, sweet Soul.

203

:

For such a wonder, undo the door.

204

:

No, that door is hard to open.

205

:

Hinges Rusty.

206

:

Latches broken.

207

:

Bid him.

208

:

Go.

209

:

Wherefore with a knocking, dreary

scare the sleep from one so weary.

210

:

Say him.

211

:

No.

212

:

Oh, that door.

213

:

Will th vex me coming ever to perplex

me for the key is stiffly rusty

214

:

and the bolt is clogged and dusty.

215

:

Many fingered ivy vine seals up

fast with twist and twine weeds

216

:

of years and years before choke.

217

:

The passage of that door

pressed upon your soul and mind.

218

:

For in every breath, that liveth

is that strange, mysterious door.

219

:

Though forsaken and be tangled.

220

:

Ivy Ard And we'd be jangled,

dusty, rusty, and forgotten.

221

:

there, the pierced hand, steel

knocks and with ever patient

222

:

waiting with the sad eyes, true and

tender with the glory crowned hair.

223

:

Still a God is waiting there.

224

:

Isn't that beautiful?

225

:

I did condense a little bit of that.

226

:

Sorry.

227

:

If you wanna read the full thing.

228

:

Look for knocking by Harriet.

229

:

Beat your stove.

230

:

Does your door or your passageway

seem, Bolt is clogged and dusty.

231

:

Many fingered ivy vine seals

it fast with twist and twine.

232

:

Sometimes our hearts.

233

:

Our minds can become like

this door and this poem.

234

:

So I'm inviting you to

ask, seek and knock.

235

:

Find that door.

236

:

Open that heart.

237

:

President Nelson said, you can

know for yourself what is true and

238

:

what is not, by learning to discern

the whisperings of the spirit.

239

:

As you seek, as you ask, as you

knock, you will receive answers.

240

:

I promise you that each one of us have

a personal hon, the Holy Ghost, to

241

:

guide us through our journey each day.

242

:

So go find out for yourself.

243

:

How do you ask?

244

:

How do you seek and how do you knock?

245

:

What's the saying?

246

:

How small does Jesus need to

be to fit into your schedule?

247

:

Figure out how to open those doors.

248

:

Overgrown by Ivy, I can, with confidence,

promise you that the Savior will

249

:

answer as he's promised, and then.

250

:

Just sit back and be interested

in how that lehon is delivered

251

:

to your tent door for the day.

252

:

And what kind of host would I be

if I didn't finish this episode

253

:

off with a knock, knock joke.

254

:

Our grandson rush when we FaceTime him.

255

:

He loves a good knock, knock joke.

256

:

So this is for you.

257

:

Rush, knock, knock who's there?

258

:

All live.

259

:

All of who I love you.

260

:

and we do love you gi and I are

so grateful that you take the

261

:

time to join us in this journey,

the creative spiritual journey.

262

:

And if you can take a moment,

give us the thumbs up, a good

263

:

review, and share us with a friend.

264

:

standing, knocking at the

door, sometimes knocking.

265

:

You can feel weary, like there's no

one answering, but there is always our

266

:

savior on the other side of the door.

267

:

I can promise you.

268

:

I have one more thought

I wanna leave with you.

269

:

In creating this content, I looked up on

chat GPT for some ancient ritual rituals

270

:

of knocking, and the thought came to me.

271

:

If the person of hon is the Holy

Ghost, let's make sure we're

272

:

listening to him and not ai.

273

:

As convenient as it is, maybe convenience

isn't always the best thing for

274

:

what's good for our spirits, So make

sure you're knocking on the right

275

:

doors and following the real compass,

the real hon, you the Holy Ghost.

276

:

And with that, I'll see you on the trail.

About the Podcast

Creative Spiritual Journey
one small, deliberate step at a time
We are all on a journey—a journey home to our heavenly parents. Any experienced traveler knows there are days you laugh and days you cry.

We aren’t here to tell you how to live—we are here to share how we live—how we survive, thrive, and even find joy!

The journey gets messy with rainstorms and sleepless flights but the hard times—the miserable times—those make the best stories.

And the vistas, the sunsets, the little birds outside the window—those are the reminders that God is in the details, he is aware of us, he has trod the path before.

The Creative Spiritual Journey Podcast is hosted by Judy and Ghia Cooley—two sisters in their wisdom years—who love the savior and are dedicated to making this journey one small, deliberate step at a time.
