Small Step: To Embark

Sawubona! Is a Zulu greeting which means “I see you” I love this because to truly see someone is to love them and I believe God sees us! I’m Judy Cooley, My husband and I are serving a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in South Africa, KwaZulu-Natal

"Small Steps" is part of the podcast from Creative Spiritual Journey, where I will give you small steps to help you move forward along your journey. This episode small steps is "TO EMBARK"

To embark means to go on board… like a ship sailing off on an adventure. It also means to begin a journey.

In the scriptures, Doctrine & Covenants 4 begins with “…a marvelous work is about to come forth among the children of men. O ye that EMBARK in the service of God, see that ye serve Him with All your heart, might, mind and strength.”

Christ is asking us To be ALL IN- ALL aboard!

I invite you to be ALL IN, and while you EMBARK on your journey, ask yourself: "Where do I see the Hand of God?"

Speaker:

Hello, my friends, you are listening to

the creative, spiritual journey, small

2

:

steps, where we give you small steps to

help you move forward on your journey.

3

:

Today's small step.

4

:

To embark.

5

:

Let me start off by saying so bona.

6

:

So bona is a Zulu greeting,

which means I see you.

7

:

I love this because to truly

see someone is to love them.

8

:

And I believe God sees us.

9

:

I'm Judy Cooley.

10

:

My husband and I are serving

a mission in South Africa.

11

:

KwaZulu natal.

12

:

In a city.

13

:

Named new castle.

14

:

Which is our new home away from home.

15

:

. We embarked on this mission

because we answered the call

16

:

from the spirit to go and do.

17

:

Also it's something we wanted

to do for the past 40 years.

18

:

It was a choice.

19

:

To give all our heart might

mind and strength to the Lord.

20

:

To lay it on the altar.

21

:

Now before you think.

22

:

Oh, how wonderful.

23

:

I want to share with you the struggles as

well as the tender mercies and miracles.

24

:

We've discovered.

25

:

To embark means to go on board.

26

:

Like the ship selling off on an adventure.

27

:

It also means to begin a journey.

28

:

In the scriptures doctrine, covenants

four begins with a marvelous work is about

29

:

to come forth among the children of man.

30

:

Only that embark and the service of God.

31

:

See that you serve him

with all your heart.

32

:

All your might all your

mind and all your strength.

33

:

Christ is asking us to be all in.

34

:

All aboard.

35

:

Well, let me tell you where my heart

and head were upon arriving here.

36

:

I left my heart at home.

37

:

With my family and my head was a mess.

38

:

It was searching for familiar ground.

39

:

And my strength was basically

a puddle on the floor.

40

:

All I could see was the ugly

things, the hard things, the many

41

:

locks on our doors and bars on our

windows and brick floors and walls.

42

:

So tall.

43

:

You can't see over that are

topped with electric fencing.

44

:

Uh, and there was no earth for me to sink

my hands and feet into to feel grounded.

45

:

My soul cried out.

46

:

Oh, I can not do this for two years.

47

:

Eric kindly listened and comforted

me asking . Can you do today?

48

:

Try just to take it one day at a time.

49

:

You see, Eric knows what

it's like to be homesick.

50

:

Because of when he was a young missionary.

51

:

So after a long dark night, The

next morning I got up and I started

52

:

my day with my traditional am.

53

:

Ritual of meditative prayer.

54

:

That's when a Sparrow

landed outside my window.

55

:

And the spirit whispered to me.

56

:

Judy.

57

:

Like the Sparrow.

58

:

I see you.

59

:

It was then that I realized

to be all in and to give all

60

:

and to have joy is a choice.

61

:

And so.

62

:

I can choose to be all in for that day.

63

:

We then went for a walk down

a path outside of our complex.

64

:

I discovered wild zinnias well,

if you know me, you know how much

65

:

I love zinnias there were these

hanging bird nest in the trees.

66

:

From what is called the

yellow Weaver birds.

67

:

Big beautiful open skies with

mountains in the distance.

68

:

We're surrounded by farmland.

69

:

I found a feather.

70

:

And Eric found me a little heart rock.

71

:

All of these are what I call

God winks and says sub-one.

72

:

Bona ICU.

73

:

Since then I've tried to choose joy.

74

:

Every day, choosing to be all in.

75

:

I've even discovered moments.

76

:

when the thought has come to mind.

77

:

I love it here.

78

:

You see.

79

:

I've been waiting for

my heart to catch up.

80

:

After leaving so much at home.

81

:

I have discovered.

82

:

Christ is helpful to me.

83

:

Create a new heart

84

:

with his grace.

85

:

While he watches over and

promises to care for my heart.

86

:

And those loved ones back at home.

87

:

I want to share with you a story.

88

:

I have the great explore Cortez.

89

:

Now Cortez upon arriving in the new world.

90

:

Orders that all the ships are to be burnt.

91

:

In the Harbor.

92

:

This sent a clear message to his man.

93

:

There is no turning back.

94

:

I have burned the ships.

95

:

Oh, dear.

96

:

Do I need to burn my ship?

97

:

Really?

98

:

And Ted calesters talk.

99

:

The consecrated missionary.

100

:

He states.

101

:

When we came to the mission field,

you burned the ships in the Harbor.

102

:

There is no retreat.

103

:

You cannot have one foot at home.

104

:

And one foot in the mission field.

105

:

In other words.

106

:

I can't have all my heart

at home and all my heart.

107

:

In the mission field But unlike

Cortez, our savior has promised

108

:

that he will be with us.

109

:

His spirit will go before face and

his angels roundabout to lift us up.

110

:

His grace or support us moment to moment.

111

:

So, what are you waiting for?

112

:

what do you need to embark in?

113

:

Begin the journey upward.

114

:

my invitation to you be all in.

115

:

I have discovered that I was turning

inward and it was all about me.

116

:

Mimi.

117

:

Instead of reaching outward and upward.

118

:

To those that I've been

sent here to serve.

119

:

And to open my eyes to

the angels, roundabout me.

120

:

And the miracles.

121

:

And the joy.

122

:

Of serving a mission.

123

:

And the beautiful faces.

124

:

Of my new friends and my brothers

and sisters here in new castle.

125

:

Such a blessing.

126

:

I also invite you to look for your own.

127

:

God weeks in your life.

128

:

Where is he showing you his love?

129

:

That you were in the right place at

the right time and that you're needed.

130

:

At first.

131

:

Uh, consecration may seem like Mount

Everest, unconquerable, and approachable,

132

:

But every step you take forward.

133

:

Every day you choose to be all in, However

minute it may seem furthers our accent.

134

:

Until one day you were

standing on the summit.

135

:

I leave you with my testimony

and my love for our savior

136

:

Jesus Christ, who he was all in.

137

:

When he chose to atone and

sacrifice his all for us,

138

:

he is my joy.

139

:

It is for him that we embarked into this

marvelous work in wonder of finding,

140

:

lifting, and loving our brothers

and sisters here in the new world.

141

:

Of South Africa.

142

:

This is his work

143

:

And I say these things in

his name, Jesus Christ.

144

:

And I'll see you on the trail.

About the Podcast

Creative Spiritual Journey
one small, deliberate step at a time
We are all on a journey—a journey home to our heavenly parents. Any experienced traveler knows there are days you laugh and days you cry.

We aren’t here to tell you how to live—we are here to share how we live—how we survive, thrive, and even find joy!

The journey gets messy with rainstorms and sleepless flights but the hard times—the miserable times—those make the best stories.

And the vistas, the sunsets, the little birds outside the window—those are the reminders that God is in the details, he is aware of us, he has trod the path before.

The Creative Spiritual Journey Podcast is hosted by Judy and Ghia Cooley—two sisters in their wisdom years—who love the savior and are dedicated to making this journey one small, deliberate step at a time.
