BUTTERFLIES!

Yay! spring has sprung here in South Africa on this side of the world! I am loving it! Just when I thought I couldn’t do any more freezing gloomy days- Spring arrives just in time. The seasons are great teachers of change.

An ancient Chinese philosopher Chaung Tzu said it best…

“Just when the caterpillar thought the world was over, it became a butterfly.”

Ever thought about changes as being part of a Divine plan? Or what it means to fulfill the measure of your creation?

my friends.

3

:

Thanks for joining me on the creative.

4

:

Creative spiritual journey podcast, where

geeky and I share with you the joys we

5

:

discover along this journey of life.

6

:

As we follow our savior.

7

:

Jesus Christ, I and Judy.

8

:

Also known as sister Cooley here in

the Durban, South Africa mission.

9

:

I am your host for this episode.

10

:

Let me first begin by

expressing my gratitude for you.

11

:

My friends.

12

:

This podcast gives me a chance

to be connected to you and a

13

:

space for me to be able to give

expression to the things of my heart.

14

:

.

Hey, did you know, spring has finally arrived here in South

15

:

Africa on this side of the world.

16

:

I love it.

17

:

And beginning to see the signs.

18

:

The burn fields.

19

:

Of grass are now starting to green up.

20

:

And the potted Gerber Daisy on

my French porch, his bloomed.

21

:

And there are pink blossoms

on the peach trees.

22

:

And the ostriches where we go

and run have seven new chicks.

23

:

I've never seen ostrich chicks before.

24

:

They're adorable.

25

:

I can hear the birds and

the crickets singing.

26

:

And I even swatted my first mosquito.

27

:

Opposition and all things, my friend.

28

:

I've always loved the season spring.

29

:

I even took Ghias advice and

walked barefooted out in the field

30

:

where we run with the animals.

31

:

Which means there's lots and

lots of animal droppings.

32

:

I love how energizing it felt

to connect to my mother earth.

33

:

I guess you can call me she who

runs with the wielder beast.

34

:

nature has so much to teach us.

35

:

Just when I thought I couldn't do any

more gloomy freezing days here spring.

36

:

Arrives.

37

:

There is an ancient Chinese philosopher.

38

:

Chung.

39

:

Two.

40

:

I hope I'm saying that.

41

:

Right.

42

:

Who said it best.

43

:

Just when the caterpillar thought the

world was over, it became a butterfly.

44

:

Just think of it.

45

:

Uh, caterpillar.

46

:

Becomes a butterfly.

47

:

I it's just stunning.

48

:

God is fabulous.

49

:

Do you ever wonder if the caterpillar,

while it's inching its way along

50

:

the ground in search of food?

51

:

Looks up at a butterfly and imagines what

it would be like to be a winged insect.

52

:

And fly from flower to flower and

cover more ground in just a moment

53

:

than it ever had in his life.

54

:

And what if being this

caterpillar, it cave up.

55

:

It just is too hard crawling in

this dirt and trying to find food.

56

:

Think of what it would

miss out on that moment.

57

:

It breaks out of its cocoon.

58

:

I have the joy of teaching

arts and crafts to St.

59

:

Anthony's children's center.

60

:

Once a month, I adore these kids.

61

:

We have painted watercolor

cards to give our friends.

62

:

We've cut out snowflakes out of paper.

63

:

now that was fun.

64

:

It was like I was a magician

performing a magic act.

65

:

When I enfolded the paper there,

oohs and AHS were priceless.

66

:

Now this time.

67

:

We painted colorful caterpillars

out of eight cartons.

68

:

I've been saving.

69

:

As I told him the story of how a

caterpillar hatches from an egg.

70

:

Eats and grows And eats and grows fat.

71

:

till one day.

72

:

It wraps herself in a

show called a cocoon.

73

:

Where it rests for weeks before it fights

to break out where it emerges with wings

74

:

and has become a beautiful butterfly.

75

:

Then we twisted pipe cleaners

into beautiful Butterfly rings so

76

:

they could fly around the room.

77

:

They were thrilled.

78

:

This story of a caterpillar, becoming

a butterfly was new to most of them.

79

:

Believe it or not.

80

:

These children here are the most

vulnerable of the vulnerable.

81

:

They come from broken homes

and some are even orphans.

82

:

I often wonder what

their future will bring.

83

:

As children of God, these

precious children have no idea.

84

:

Other divine potential.

85

:

To be winged and fly to

higher and brighter places.

86

:

I'm not even sure how

it will happen for them.

87

:

But this, I do know that we are all

children of a loving and merciful.

88

:

Heavenly father.

89

:

Who created caterpillars?

90

:

That become butterflies.

91

:

Can we even begin to imagine

what he has in store for us,

92

:

his own precious children.

93

:

In first Corinthians chapter

two, verse nine, we read.

94

:

I have not seen nor ear heard.

95

:

Neither has entered into the hearts

of man the things which God has

96

:

prepared for them that love him.

97

:

We can't even comprehend all the

things which God has prepared.

98

:

For us.

99

:

That love him.

100

:

I imagine our heavenly parents

having this big abundance storehouse

101

:

of gifts and blessings that they

are anxious to pour out upon us.

102

:

All that they have.

103

:

But they are wise gods.

104

:

They're wise parents and letting us

grow, learn, struggle, and do the

105

:

heavy lifting to gain the muscles.

106

:

To gain the lessons here in

this life as a caterpillar.

107

:

Because simply we just couldn't

handle that all that they

108

:

have in store for us just yet.

109

:

Uh, metamorphosis needs to take place.

110

:

Just think about it.

111

:

What change will have to take place?

112

:

Within you.

113

:

I think about it.

114

:

What change will have

to take place within me?

115

:

To become as them.

116

:

Oh, man.

117

:

I have a hard time

sometimes just being kind.

118

:

Or even creating a podcast.

119

:

Can you imagine becoming instantly.

120

:

I got us.

121

:

It may be that we can't comprehend

our divine potential just yet.

122

:

It just may be too hard for the moment.

123

:

But it's baby steps.

124

:

It's daily.

125

:

Baby steps.

126

:

May I suggest we simply start?

127

:

By pouring out our hearts to

our heavenly father in prayer,

128

:

in the name of Jesus Christ.

129

:

And then listen.

130

:

The holy spirit will help us see.

131

:

And understand the vision God has for us.

132

:

Remember, We are his beloved children.

133

:

He knows each of us personally,

and has a plan for us.

134

:

He is ready to assist us.

135

:

And our personal efforts and

promises remarkable blessings.

136

:

If we just trust him.

137

:

What if that caterpillar gave

up, because the inching along

138

:

the dirt was just too hard.

139

:

Think of what it would miss out

on this plan called metamorphosis.

140

:

Metamorphosis is defined as a change of

physical form structure or substance,

141

:

especially by supernatural means.

142

:

No supernatural.

143

:

Makes me think of heavenly father.

144

:

Metamorphosis is to have a

striking alteration in appearance,

145

:

character or circumstances.

146

:

I have seen this metamorphosis

take place in people, for example.

147

:

A drug addict.

148

:

In the repentance process

and the recovery process.

149

:

Has gone through a

series of metamorphosis.

150

:

Another definition.

151

:

Is, Uh, typically abrupt development

change in the form or structure of an

152

:

animal such as a butterfly or a frog.

153

:

The most beloved of natures, metamorphosis

is probably the transformation

154

:

of caterpillars into butterflies.

155

:

There is also an ancient myth

that ends in a metamorphosis.

156

:

I was fortunate to see a life-size

marble Sculpture created by

157

:

the Italian artists Bernini.

158

:

Titled apollo and Daphne.

159

:

I saw it at the Borghese gallery in Rome.

160

:

This Sculpture depicts the climax of a

story of Apollo chasing the nymph Daphne.

161

:

She calls on her river godfather for help.

162

:

And he turns her into a Laurel tree.

163

:

To save her life.

164

:

Ah, if you ever get the chance

to visit Rome, this is a must.

165

:

It is beautiful.

166

:

It is stunning.

167

:

There are also natural substances

that also undergo metamorphosis,

168

:

for example, heat and pressure

169

:

over thousands of years may

eventually turn tiny organisms into

170

:

petroleum and coal into diamonds.

171

:

Notice what all these

metamorphosis have in common.

172

:

Change.

173

:

Change that is necessary for progression.

174

:

Change sometimes that is.

175

:

Hard.

176

:

So there's this question that we

ask at the beginning of the 12 step

177

:

addiction program that we teach.

178

:

And it is.

179

:

Are you willing to.

180

:

Give up who you are.

181

:

For who you want to be.

182

:

This process of becoming of changing.

183

:

Much of the time.

184

:

Life is so busy.

185

:

We don't really think about whether

there's any great purpose to it at all.

186

:

Pretty much like Eric Carl's book.

187

:

the very hungry caterpillar and just

eating and inching our way through life.

188

:

Unaware of our potential.

189

:

Just satisfying our hunger.

190

:

Just trying to get through another day.

191

:

Yeah, there seems to be something

inside of us that longs to know.

192

:

Why am I here?

193

:

What is the purpose of this life?

194

:

And maybe can I fly?

195

:

That's what's so cool about being a

missionary and sharing this exciting news

196

:

of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ.

197

:

Because I can declare with certainty

that your life does have purpose.

198

:

And you can know it.

199

:

Put simply you're here

because your father in heaven.

200

:

Gave you that opportunity.

201

:

And you joyfully accepted it.

202

:

Your purpose in this life is to grow.

203

:

To learn about God to

become more like him.

204

:

And one day receive.

205

:

Eternal life with him.

206

:

That storehouse of blessings.

207

:

Just.

208

:

Like the caterpillar.

209

:

To become the butterfly to fulfill

the measure of your creation.

210

:

I have seen what learning And

really coming to an understanding

211

:

of these fabulous truths.

212

:

Can have such a powerful influence

on how we view life's blessings.

213

:

Trials sorrows.

214

:

And Joyce.

215

:

May I invite you to find joy in

the process while here on earth.

216

:

And be the best you, you can be.

217

:

As elder Bednar often says be a good boy.

218

:

Just be a good girl.

219

:

And trust in your savior.

220

:

Jesus Christ.

221

:

His plan to become a butterfly,

so to speak and fly to the

222

:

highest Heights of eternity.

223

:

Don't give up, keep pressing forward.

224

:

My favorite scripture.

225

:

Is in second knee, 5 30, 1 20.

226

:

Wherefore, we must press forward

with a steadfastness in Christ.

227

:

Having a perfect brightness of hope

and a love of God and of all man.

228

:

Wherefore.

229

:

If you shall press forward

feasting upon the words of Christ.

230

:

And in dirt to the end, behold, this at

the father, ye shall have eternal life.

231

:

You shall have wings.

232

:

Well, maybe not literally, but I'm

guessing it's something even better.

233

:

I do.

234

:

I fully testify these things

in the name of Jesus Christ.

235

:

For now my friends keep pressing forward.

236

:

Never give up, look up and

I will see you on the trail.

237

:

And Hey.

238

:

If you have a fellow caterpillar

friend that needs this message

239

:

Of a perfect brightness of hope.

240

:

Please share this message with them.

241

:

No one needs to feel alone on this

journey because after all we're

242

:

just walking each other home.

About the Podcast

Creative Spiritual Journey
one small, deliberate step at a time
We are all on a journey—a journey home to our heavenly parents. Any experienced traveler knows there are days you laugh and days you cry.

We aren’t here to tell you how to live—we are here to share how we live—how we survive, thrive, and even find joy!

The journey gets messy with rainstorms and sleepless flights but the hard times—the miserable times—those make the best stories.

And the vistas, the sunsets, the little birds outside the window—those are the reminders that God is in the details, he is aware of us, he has trod the path before.

The Creative Spiritual Journey Podcast is hosted by Judy and Ghia Cooley—two sisters in their wisdom years—who love the savior and are dedicated to making this journey one small, deliberate step at a time.
