YOUR MISSION CALL

YOU HAVE HEARBY BEEN CALLED TO LABOR AND SERVE IN THE MISSION CALLED MORTAL LIFE!

Transcript
Speaker:

Sonny Bonani, friends, welcome to the

Creative Spiritual Journey podcast where

2

:

GUI and I share with you the joys and

the wonders we are discovering along

3

:

this journey called life, I am Judy.

4

:

I'll be your host for today's episode

number 84, and today is also day 640

5

:

of our mission here in South Africa.

6

:

I have been numbering the days

nd,:

7

:

October 2nd, Which means today

is our 21st month anniversary.

8

:

The end is almost here, not

the coming of Christ silly.

9

:

Only two more months to

go before we return home.

10

:

Ah, it's impossible to put into

words what my heart is feeling.

11

:

This has been an amazing.

12

:

Experience?

13

:

It has been a marvelous work and wonder.

14

:

I found a poem that best describes What

Eric and I are experiencing right now,

15

:

this is by a man named Jack Brinkerhoff.

16

:

It's called Highs and Lows.

17

:

A mission is a strange experience.

18

:

It's a trial and a test.

19

:

A mission throws you at the

worst, yet teaches you the best.

20

:

They told me this would be the best

period of my life, but I guess they

21

:

didn't explain it all too clear.

22

:

It came out looking for a bed of roses.

23

:

I just wasn't expecting all the thorns

I've found here since I've been out.

24

:

I've never been so happy.

25

:

I've never been so depressed.

26

:

I've never felt so forsaken.

27

:

I've never felt so blessed.

28

:

I've never been so confused.

29

:

My mind has never been so clear.

30

:

I've never felt my

heavenly father so distant.

31

:

I've never felt him so near.

32

:

I've never been so discouraged.

33

:

I've never been so full of hope.

34

:

I feel like I can go forever.

35

:

I think I've come to the end of my rope.

36

:

I've never had to say it's easy.

37

:

I've never had to say it's tough.

38

:

Things have never gone so smoothly.

39

:

Things have never been so rough.

40

:

I've never traveled through more valleys.

41

:

I've never ascended so many peaks.

42

:

I've never met so many neat people.

43

:

I've never met so many freaks.

44

:

I've never had so many ups, and

I've never had so many downs.

45

:

I've never worn so many smiles.

46

:

I've never worn so many frowns.

47

:

I've never been so lonely.

48

:

I've never had so many friends.

49

:

Man, I hope this is all over soon.

50

:

Gosh.

51

:

I hope it never ends.

52

:

That just says it all, doesn't it?

53

:

I imagine in our premortal life was much

like being called on a mission Here.

54

:

We received mission calls for this life.

55

:

Do you think so?

56

:

Where we're going to be born?

57

:

Where we're gonna receive our

bodies, our families, our people,

58

:

and you know what the scriptures

tell us that we shouted for joy.

59

:

Yep, you better believe it.

60

:

We've rejoiced to be able to come

to this life and experience it all,

61

:

the good and the bad, the sorrow

and the pain, the ups and the downs,

62

:

and just like leaving on a mission.

63

:

I'm sure we were filled with

every emotion available.

64

:

I remember telling my friend, Julie Ekman,

ah, I was so afraid to come on a mission.

65

:

So much fears.

66

:

I didn't, know how to be a missionary.

67

:

Never done this before.

68

:

And I love my life and I didn't

know where I was going, what

69

:

to expect in South Africa.

70

:

And what she said to me has

pulled me through some hard spots.

71

:

She said, Judy, everything you

need is in your heart and head.

72

:

Isn't that beautiful?

73

:

Our mission packet packing list didn't

mention that in Preach my gospel.

74

:

Now preach my gospel is a lesson

manual that the missionary study.

75

:

It is beautiful and you don't have to

be called on a mission to study it.

76

:

I recommend it highly.

77

:

Go find a preach my gospel and read it.

78

:

So full of good information.

79

:

in the chapter three, lesson two, we

read in God's Plan, each of us makes a

80

:

journey through premortal life, birth and

mortal life, death and life after death.

81

:

God has provided what we

need during this journey.

82

:

I'm gonna read that again.

83

:

God has provided what we need during

this journey so that after we die,

84

:

we can eventually return to his

presence and receive a fullness of joy.

85

:

Now during the surf life, we do not

remember our premortal life, nor

86

:

do we understand life after death.

87

:

However, God has revealed many truths

about these parts of our eternal journey.

88

:

These truths provide sufficient knowledge

for us to understand the purpose of

89

:

life, to experience joy, joy today, and

to have the hope of good things to come.

90

:

Do you hope for good things to come?

91

:

This knowledge?

92

:

Understanding these truths is

a sacred treasure to guide us

93

:

while we are here on earth.

94

:

Do you love treasures?

95

:

I love treasures, and I love journeys.

96

:

Isn't that amazing that we were

provided with everything we

97

:

would need for this journey?

98

:

We came into this world naked.

99

:

There was no backpack, no packing

list, only what was in our hearts.

100

:

And our heads, just like

my friend Julie said.

101

:

Now, have you been backpacking?

102

:

When you go backpacking, you have to

think about all the things you may need.

103

:

Now you gotta also take in consideration.

104

:

The weight because you're gonna have

to carry this baby on your back.

105

:

So you gotta think about the weather,

what clothes you'll need, the distance,

106

:

how many days you'll be out, the meals

that you need to eat, and the water.

107

:

And like I said, everything

weighs, so you've gotta weigh

108

:

it in the balance, so to speak.

109

:

Okay.

110

:

I'm off track.

111

:

I'm chasing squirrels.

112

:

Let me get back on track here.

113

:

With the passing of our prophet Russell M.

114

:

Nelson, have you noticed there's

been some wonderful memories shared

115

:

online and He was such a wise man and.

116

:

So inspiring.

117

:

one of my favorites is when he asks,

what would you do if you had more faith?

118

:

Write it down and go do it.

119

:

So here we are serving a mission

on the other side of the planet

120

:

in a small place called Madada

Qua Zula Natal, South Africa.

121

:

But the quote I wanna share with

you is one that we share with

122

:

our brothers and sisters here.

123

:

Pre Mortally, you and I were

each given a wonderful mission to

124

:

fulfill while we here on earth.

125

:

You were taught in the spirit world

to prepare you for anything and

126

:

everything you would encounter during

these latter part of these latter days,

127

:

and that teaching endures within you.

128

:

It's my favorite part that

teaching endures with.

129

:

In you.

130

:

Isn't that beautiful?

131

:

you may be asking like I

did How do I get it out?

132

:

How do I remember?

133

:

That would be very helpful at times.

134

:

Especially the really ugly,

horrible, terrible, no good times.

135

:

My experience with this is one day, this

was years ago and Eric and I were going

136

:

through, oh, we were going through hell.

137

:

That's easy way to put it.

138

:

And I was cleaning the house at the

moment and I just, my head spinning.

139

:

Over and over again.

140

:

What to do.

141

:

What to do, what to do, and

I fell to my knees and prayer

142

:

and just cried out, help us.

143

:

And these words came to my mind.

144

:

An audible voice into my mind said, you

were taught at your heavenly mother's

145

:

knee how to be a mother to this child.

146

:

feelings of gratitude flooded my heart.

147

:

I have been taught how to do this.

148

:

Here it, what did the prophet say?

149

:

It endures within me.

150

:

So the question, how can I remember

these teachings or get into

151

:

this backpack of provisions that

we've been given in this life?

152

:

I asked this recently to a group

of 200 young women and they hi.

153

:

It right on the head.

154

:

They talked about the gift of the

Holy Ghost, how he can call to our

155

:

remembrance and about the importance of

this daily routine of praying to know

156

:

what to do and to receive enlightenment.

157

:

It's researching and really studying the

scriptures, not nibbling, but feasting.

158

:

Don't go hungry spiritually.

159

:

Find answers.

160

:

There's power and answers in

making and keeping covenants

161

:

and keeping the commandments.

162

:

The prophet ne, I wrote about this

in the Book of Mormon when his

163

:

family left Jerusalem and they were

a journeying through the wilderness.

164

:

Now, this was an eight

year mega backpacking trip.

165

:

That kind of a journey in first Nephi.

166

:

17 three he writes, and thus we see that

the commandments of God must be fulfilled.

167

:

And if it so be that the children

of man keep the commandments.

168

:

A God, he does nourish them and strengthen

them and provide them means he does

169

:

nourish them and strengthen them.

170

:

And provide them means whereby they

can accomplish the things which

171

:

he has commanded them where for,

he did provide means for us while

172

:

we did sojourn in the wilderness.

173

:

I don't think that's only just for

Nephi's journey, but for us here on this

174

:

earthly journey, I want to to testify.

175

:

I have a simple truth because I've

experienced it here as I've entered

176

:

into tiny Tin Shack homes where

they're so hungry, they have so

177

:

little into the presence of giant.

178

:

Faithful souls whose journey

looks so different from mine yet

179

:

the plan of promise are the same.

180

:

we lived with God before

we were born on earth.

181

:

All of us did.

182

:

He knows and loves each one of us.

183

:

God has provided a plan for

our happiness and progress in

184

:

this life and into eternity.

185

:

All of us in our premortal life,

we chose to follow God's plan.

186

:

All of us.

187

:

This meant coming to earth so

we could take the next step

188

:

in our eternal progression.

189

:

And Jesus Christ is central.

190

:

To God's plan for all of us.

191

:

He makes it possible for all of us

to have immortality and eternal life.

192

:

We all are on the same journey,

193

:

just different parts of the path and

just different parts of the world.

194

:

I know sometimes it doesn't seem

fair that one soul is sent to.

195

:

Paradise, tropical Island into

wealth while another sent into the

196

:

desert, wastelands into poverty.

197

:

But I can promise you not one

is loved more than the other

198

:

In God's heart and neither

one is more special.

199

:

In heaven's, eyes all are alike

to God, our savior, Jesus Christ.

200

:

Great infinite atonement

is for every single soul.

201

:

I also know that as we rely on

Jesus Christ and this beautiful

202

:

atonement, his gift, he can help us

endure trials and sickness and pain,

203

:

and we can be filled with joy now.

204

:

And hope for good things to come

and peace, and he will comfort us.

205

:

And this is the most important thing

I want you to get out of this all

206

:

that is unfair about life can be

made right through this atonement,

207

:

this grace and love of Jesus Christ.

208

:

I invite you, Franz, to spend some

time pondering on this mission

209

:

call you've received and like all

mission calls that are received

210

:

from the church, they begin with.

211

:

You are hereby called to labor and serve.

212

:

Start there.

213

:

Ask your heavenly father where

you can labor today in his

214

:

kingdom and who you can serve.

215

:

Who needs a hand up?

216

:

Who needs a big hug and a smile,

and just some encouragement.

217

:

Look around.

218

:

There's mission

opportunities all around you.

219

:

And no one was meant to journey alone.

220

:

GUI and I thank you for spending

your precious time with us.

221

:

I bet you know someone who

needs a reminder that they too

222

:

are on a wonderful mission.

223

:

Please share this podcast with them.

224

:

and give us a five star review,

have you figured that out yet?

225

:

We only grow together I want to leave

you with these parting words from Dr.

226

:

Seuss.

227

:

You're off to great

places, today is your day.

228

:

Your mountain is waiting, so get

on your way just like your mission

229

:

call and I'll see you on the trail.

About the Podcast

Creative Spiritual Journey
one small, deliberate step at a time
We are all on a journey—a journey home to our heavenly parents. Any experienced traveler knows there are days you laugh and days you cry.

We aren’t here to tell you how to live—we are here to share how we live—how we survive, thrive, and even find joy!

The journey gets messy with rainstorms and sleepless flights but the hard times—the miserable times—those make the best stories.

And the vistas, the sunsets, the little birds outside the window—those are the reminders that God is in the details, he is aware of us, he has trod the path before.

The Creative Spiritual Journey Podcast is hosted by Judy and Ghia Cooley—two sisters in their wisdom years—who love the savior and are dedicated to making this journey one small, deliberate step at a time.
