Speaker:

So bona my friends and welcome to the

creative, spiritual journey podcast.

2

:

I'm Judy and I will be your host

for this week's episode of small

3

:

steps, where I share with you a small

step that has helped me along this

4

:

wonderful journey of life today.

5

:

Small step.

6

:

Turn it right side up.

7

:

It's interesting that I'm coming to

you from new castle, South Africa.

8

:

Where my husband and I are serving

a mission for the church of Jesus

9

:

Christ of latter day saints.

10

:

And Ghia, my sister-in-law who is

the other host for this podcast

11

:

comes to you from castle valley.

12

:

Her castle is in the Northern hemisphere.

13

:

And my castle is in the

Southern hemisphere.

14

:

Doesn't that sound like we

live in some kind of fairytale.

15

:

The reality is.

16

:

We all live in the wilderness.

17

:

We have been sent.

18

:

From our heavenly home to journey

through this mortal life in a

19

:

wilderness that we may come to know God.

20

:

And to learn from our own

experiences along the way.

21

:

To choose the good from the evil.

22

:

I find it fascinating how many profits.

23

:

In the book of Mormon and in

the Bible remember Moses and the

24

:

children of Israel and their 40

year journey through the wilderness.

25

:

It kind of seems like to me, it's

a similitude of our life journeys.

26

:

I read A daily verse from a book titled

the book of mysteries by Jonathan Kahn.

27

:

and I have discovered

insights and treasures.

28

:

From reading this book.

29

:

About the Messiah.

30

:

And it's from there that I want

to read to you from day 1 65.

31

:

This is called the Move off..

32

:

If you don't mind, I'm just going

to read right from the book.

33

:

We sat in the midst of the desert,

plain surrounded by mountains.

34

:

The teacher was holding

in one hand, a fruit.

35

:

And in the other cluster

of three branches.

36

:

This, he said, holding up the branches.

37

:

It is called the lulav.

38

:

It comes from the biblical command

to worship God on the feast

39

:

of Tabernacles with branches.

40

:

During that phase, the people

of Israel would remember how God

41

:

led them through the wilderness.

42

:

Through the waving of these branches.

43

:

How, so I asked.

44

:

This the largest of the three branches.

45

:

Is a poem.

46

:

The Palm tree grows in the valleys.

47

:

So the Palm branch reminded

the Israelites, other journeys

48

:

through the valleys that God.

49

:

Was with them.

50

:

And this, he said pointing to the

smaller branch of dark green Leafs.

51

:

Is the Myrtle.

52

:

It grows in the mountains.

53

:

So the Myrtle reminded them other

journey through the mountains.

54

:

And that God was with them there as well.

55

:

And this, he said pointing to the drooping

branch of light green is the Willow.

56

:

The Willow grows by the water Brooks.

57

:

He reminded them of their journeys through

the dry places that God was with them.

58

:

And gave him water in the desert.

59

:

Now, what is the mystery of the Luva?

60

:

He asked.

61

:

I have no idea.

62

:

The wilderness is the world.

63

:

The journey.

64

:

Is this life.

65

:

And to the child of God.

66

:

This is the message of the Lula.

67

:

The Palm tells you that no matter what

valley you go through in your life.

68

:

No matter how dark.

69

:

And how deep you will never be alone.

70

:

He will be with you.

71

:

And the Myrtle tells you that when

you go through the rockiest of

72

:

times, he will go through it with

you and will keep you from falling.

73

:

And the Willow tree tells you that in

the dry and empty places of your life.

74

:

He will never leave you.

75

:

But stay close.

76

:

And we'll ever give you rivers.

77

:

In your desert.

78

:

And what about the fruit I asked.

79

:

The fruit speaks of the

promised land and its messages.

80

:

This no matter what you

go through in this life.

81

:

It is not the end, only the

journey to your destination.

82

:

And when you get there, you'll give

thanks that your journey was blessed

83

:

and that you were never alone.

84

:

And that he was with you every

moment to make sure that you

85

:

would get through it all.

86

:

And make it to the promised land.

87

:

Isn't that beautiful.

88

:

I read that the other night and

it came at a very critical point.

89

:

Of our mission for me.

90

:

Aye.

91

:

Was in the desert.

92

:

I was full of fear.

93

:

I was full of overwhelm that this

mission was just too much, too big.

94

:

And I just wanted to crawl

up in bed and be done.

95

:

My patriarchal blessing reminds me that

I've been blessed with a joyful spirit.

96

:

And I had this gift to see the bright

and the beautiful things of life and

97

:

to overcome darkness and sadness.

98

:

But man, I felt stuck in

the mire of muck and mud.

99

:

Witnessing day after day, the

things that we see here on

100

:

our mission in South Africa.

101

:

Now I want you for a moment

to use your imagination.

102

:

Because I want you to

imagine with me An analogy.

103

:

Let's all sit at.

104

:

Oh, well.

105

:

Much Like the Samaritan woman

at the well and Christ is there.

106

:

He places, two cups on the edge.

107

:

One is right site up.

108

:

On the other is upside down.

109

:

Then he draws water deep from inside

the well and pours it over the cups.

110

:

And says to you.

111

:

This represents my love.

112

:

And all the blessings being

poured out from heaven.

113

:

You notice that the cup.

114

:

That is open.

115

:

Feels up and overflowing and

it's spilling out over the ledge.

116

:

While you notice that the other cup

that is upside down remains empty.

117

:

The cups.

118

:

Represent our heart.

119

:

When our heart is open and looking

upward and receiving, receiving

120

:

so much that it is spilling over.

121

:

Or.

122

:

Is our heart closed by fear and suffering.

123

:

That it's turned inward.

124

:

And upside down and it

becomes all about you.

125

:

The you aren't receiving the love

and the blessings of the savior.

126

:

That are pouring out.

127

:

Over all of us.

128

:

All the time.

129

:

And what is there to give to others

when your cup is upside down?

130

:

Nothing.

131

:

I realized that my cup.

132

:

Wasn't only just not

half full or half empty.

133

:

I had turned it over upside down.

134

:

I had become focused.

135

:

On myself.

136

:

Inward.

137

:

And then more than anything.

138

:

At that moment.

139

:

It's breaking point in my mission.

140

:

I wanted my cup.

141

:

To be upward.

142

:

Open.

143

:

Overflowing and spilling out.

144

:

So.

145

:

How do we do this?

146

:

How do we.

147

:

remember that God is with us in

this wilderness and this journey.

148

:

And how do we open up our hearts?

149

:

To receive the blessings.

150

:

The love that is pouring out over us.

151

:

Constantly.

152

:

I had a thought about this.

153

:

I decided that.

154

:

This mission.

155

:

Is consecrated and sacred time.

156

:

Just like your life and your journey.

157

:

Our life and our journey here.

158

:

All of us is consecrated and sacred time.

159

:

And I want it to be.

160

:

able to look back and refer

to this journey Like Moses

161

:

and the children of Israel.

162

:

I want to be able to

tell our children about.

163

:

The party of our red seas and the.

164

:

Water that we received in the desert.

165

:

I want to be able to tell our

children and our children's children.

166

:

That they too can make it

through their wildernesses.

167

:

Because God's blessing and love is.

168

:

I continually pouring over them.

169

:

So in the morning, I made

a decision to wake up.

170

:

Lay in bed for a moment.

171

:

And Think about what am I looking forward?

172

:

To today.

173

:

And making a choice to open up my heart.

174

:

And Make sure my cup is upright.

175

:

And then.

176

:

The other thing that

keeps my cup and my heart.

177

:

Open upright spilling out.

178

:

His prayer meditation.

179

:

And the scriptures.

180

:

And then in the evenings, after the long

journey through the wilderness Where I'm

181

:

still going to witness the suffering and

the sorrows and the pains In the evenings.

182

:

I take time.

183

:

To waive the branches, so to speak.

184

:

I look.

185

:

And I think about, where have I

seen the hand of God in my day.

186

:

Where can I give?

187

:

Thanks.

188

:

That he has helped me.

189

:

He has been there for me.

190

:

So I invite you in the mornings.

191

:

To make sure your heart.

192

:

And your cup is upright.

193

:

So the blessings of God

can pour down into you.

194

:

And received them.

195

:

And in the evenings, I invite

you to gather your branches.

196

:

And remember to give.

197

:

Thanks.

198

:

Because he is going to be with

you in your valleys and your

199

:

mountains and your desserts.

200

:

And he will always be with us of this.

201

:

I know.

202

:

In Joshua one nine.

203

:

We read.

204

:

Be strong and a good courage.

205

:

Be not afraid.

206

:

Neither be dismayed for the Lord.

207

:

Thy God is with the weather.

208

:

So ever.

209

:

Val go list.

210

:

And this I can testify in

the name of Jesus Christ and

211

:

I will see you on the trail.

212

:

If you know, someone whose cup might have

been tipped upside down today on their

213

:

journey, please send them this message.

214

:

And Hey.

215

:

Before you go, I want to share with you.

216

:

I knew Zulu word.

217

:

.

I love you.

About the Podcast

Creative Spiritual Journey
one small, deliberate step at a time
We are all on a journey—a journey home to our heavenly parents. Any experienced traveler knows there are days you laugh and days you cry.

We aren’t here to tell you how to live—we are here to share how we live—how we survive, thrive, and even find joy!

The journey gets messy with rainstorms and sleepless flights but the hard times—the miserable times—those make the best stories.

And the vistas, the sunsets, the little birds outside the window—those are the reminders that God is in the details, he is aware of us, he has trod the path before.

The Creative Spiritual Journey Podcast is hosted by Judy and Ghia Cooley—two sisters in their wisdom years—who love the savior and are dedicated to making this journey one small, deliberate step at a time.
