Holiness

It's Holy Week! And every cell in my body says it's spring, but here in South Africa the leaves are changing color and fall is in the air. And I have a question for you that can change your day, and hopefully your week and how you celebrate Easter, and more importantly your heart. What is the question? Come join me on the trail and we can talk about it

Transcript
Speaker:

Sonny Bonani, my friends from the

mission field of South Africa.

2

:

It's here that my husband

and I are serving as senior

3

:

missionaries for the Church of

Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

4

:

My name is Judy Cooley, along

with my sister-in-law, GIA.

5

:

We are your host for the Creative

Spiritual Journey podcast, but I'd

6

:

rather you think of us as your hiking

buddies because there's nothing I'd

7

:

love more than to be with you right now.

8

:

Walking and talking together on a

mountain trail, sharing what's in

9

:

my heart, my love for the savior

and his beautiful creations.

10

:

Ah, as well as the joys and lessons

I'm discovering along the way.

11

:

So will you rise up, shake the dust off

your packs and join me on the trail.

12

:

Today is day 468.

13

:

Yay.

14

:

Ain't that great.

15

:

I've been numbering the day

nd,:

16

:

If you follow me on Instagram or

Facebook, I have made a daily post since

17

:

the first day of our mission recording

our experiences and things of my heart.

18

:

Maybe you've noticed that I start

each post with the word today.

19

:

That's because.

20

:

I have to make the choice each

day to be a disciple of Christ

21

:

in the beginning of our mission.

22

:

Oh, I was so homesick and the thought

of 700 days was too overwhelming for me.

23

:

I was having meltdowns and Eric

would mop me off the floor and one

24

:

morning he held me in his arms and

he just asked me, can you do today?

25

:

Just take it one day at a time.

26

:

And so I did.

27

:

I would rise up in the morning and

choose today to offer my whole heart and

28

:

my soul to the Lord in Psalms 1 18 24.

29

:

It reads, this is the day

which the Lord hath made.

30

:

We will rejoice and be glad in it.

31

:

That was my goal each day, to

find the beautiful, the things

32

:

to rejoice, the lessons that I'm

learning, to find the hand of God.

33

:

So today is also the Monday of Holy Week.

34

:

Yay.

35

:

I love Easter.

36

:

I love everything about Easter.

37

:

As a little girl, I would love the

egg hunts and the Easter dress my mom

38

:

would buy me and the Easter baskets

and the cavanaugh Mindy mint eggs.

39

:

Oh, I hope you know

what I'm talking about.

40

:

And I loved going to church.

41

:

That was one of the days that

my family would go to church.

42

:

And so Easter for me has always been

one of my favorite holidays, and Easter

43

:

in South Africa is much like Christmas.

44

:

It's so different because.

45

:

Back home.

46

:

Right now, you're experiencing the

tulips and the daffodils and the

47

:

sweet little buds coming on the

trees, and pretty soon the blossoms.

48

:

And I love how spring just emerges,

just slowly, just see life return.

49

:

And that's so symbolic of Easter here

in South Africa, all of a sudden you're

50

:

noticing the leaves are changing colors

and the days are becoming cooler and

51

:

the grass is turning brown because it's

autumn here, and everything in my soul

52

:

is so confused Easter and it's autumn.

53

:

So in the grocery store, there's

no plastic eggs, really no

54

:

decoration, and there's absolutely

no kavanaugh's mindy mint eggs.

55

:

So the analogy of spring and the

resurrection, eh, kind of gets lost here.

56

:

But regardless of what hemisphere you're

living in right now, I recommend that you

57

:

go to the church's website and check out.

58

:

A holy week, they have daily

devotionals and what we can learn

59

:

from the Saviors last week of his life

and how we can make this week holy.

60

:

In fact, I love what it is titled.

61

:

You'll find it under the tab.

62

:

Experience Jesus Christ.

63

:

Great love for you experience.

64

:

Holy week.

65

:

Holy week.

66

:

The last week of the Savior's life From

Palm Sunday to his marvelous resurrection.

67

:

So this word, holy.

68

:

The holy definition is to be

consecrated to God in Hebrew.

69

:

Definition is to be set

apart from the ordinary.

70

:

I like that one because that is

what, as missionaries, we are

71

:

set apart from the ordinary.

72

:

It is to be sacred.

73

:

The Greek definition is

dedicated to God to be believers.

74

:

So this word, holy.

75

:

We have the gift of the Holy Ghost.

76

:

The scriptures is full of His Holy Spirit.

77

:

We read from the Holy Bible and

we are to call upon his holy name.

78

:

I love the song More Holiness.

79

:

Give Me, oh Holy Night.

80

:

The plan of holiness and above our

temple doors, holiness to the Lord.

81

:

on the Monday of Holy Week, it's

interesting that we have holiness

82

:

to the Lord above the temple.

83

:

This was the day of Holy Week where the

savior cleansed the temple of the money

84

:

changers, restoring its sacred nature

to be a house of prayer, A sacred space.

85

:

A holy space, and it was there

that Christ healed the people.

86

:

'cause the blind in the lame came to

him in the temple and he healed them.

87

:

We learn two important

lessons from this event.

88

:

First, we show God our love

by honoring sacred spaces.

89

:

This would include our hearts and

our minds and our homes and our

90

:

relationships, striving to keep

them clean from sin and corruption.

91

:

Second, it teaches us that God wants

to heal us and help us become like the

92

:

Savior, to become like him, especially

when we feel weighed down with.

93

:

Burdens and noise and distractions from

the world So I invite you to try an

94

:

experiment this week for Holy Week.

95

:

There is one question, this question.

96

:

Was given to, the young adults by the

prophet and his wife, Wendy, I believe

97

:

it was in 2020, and she says, this

one question can change your life.

98

:

This is the experiment I.

99

:

This one question can increase

your confidence, decrease

100

:

your anxiety, motivate you.

101

:

Lift your mood and your sights.

102

:

Increase your productivity.

103

:

Increase your focus and clarity

of thinking, help you resist

104

:

temptation, help you detect deception.

105

:

Increase your gratitude.

106

:

Ooh, we all need that one.

107

:

Decrease the stress in your life.

108

:

Increase your capacity to love.

109

:

Wow.

110

:

That's the one I want and help

you to make better decisions.

111

:

This one question can bring you

joy, comfort, love, and peace.

112

:

Would you like to know the question?

113

:

Great.

114

:

A little background first.

115

:

Jesus Christ, our savior, our redeemer,

and the head of this, his church, has

116

:

made it very clear that he wants you.

117

:

And me to become increasingly holy.

118

:

He even commands us to do so by saying,

ye must practice holiness before me.

119

:

And he doesn't just leave it at that.

120

:

He adds the word continually.

121

:

We must practice holiness

before the Lord continually.

122

:

That would be today, every day.

123

:

So this week, the experiment I

want you to try is to ask yourself,

124

:

what would a holy woman do?

125

:

Choose to be holy and practice.

126

:

Practice it while you drive.

127

:

How would a holy woman drive?

128

:

How would a holy woman

spend her free time?

129

:

How would a holy woman use her cell phone?

130

:

How would the condition of her

home be and her sacred spaces?

131

:

How would she treat her body?

132

:

What would she eat?

133

:

What would she drink?

134

:

Gia would say a holy

woman would drink water.

135

:

What time would a holy woman go to bed?

136

:

How would a holy woman pray and meditate?

137

:

How would she seek Jesus?

138

:

Would it change how you

study the scriptures parent?

139

:

Your little ones, your

teenage ones, your adult ones.

140

:

How would a holy woman minister to

a neighbor magnify her callings?

141

:

If a holy woman is married,

how would she communicate with

142

:

her spouse, if not married?

143

:

How would she be preparing for

celestial marriage instead of

144

:

just waiting, how would a holy

person multiply their talents?

145

:

How would she dress?

146

:

How would she talk?

147

:

What would she sacrifice to

spend more time in the temple?

148

:

So I've been trying this

experiment for the past few days.

149

:

And I'll tell you where I notice it

the most is in my response to people,

150

:

especially to my husband and my prayers,

151

:

as well as my study time.

152

:

I now leave the phone plugged

in, charging, and I read from

153

:

my hard copies, my scriptures.

154

:

I preach my gospel and come follow me.

155

:

So try this for Holy Week.

156

:

Make this week holy and

just daily make that choice.

157

:

Today I choose to be holy.

158

:

I'm gonna seek the greater love

of Jesus Christ and find him.

159

:

I'm gonna seek Jesus and journal the small

changes that you notice, and much like the

160

:

leafs here changing oh so slowly colors

or the leafs where you are just emerging,

161

:

the little buds and the blossoms.

162

:

These changes are small and simple.

163

:

Make holy choices.

164

:

Make it a holy day and then a holy

week and it will become a holy life.

165

:

Take time to be holy.

166

:

Speak off with the Lord.

167

:

Abide in him always and feed on his word.

168

:

Make friends of God's children help those

who are weak, forgetting in nothing.

169

:

His blessings.

170

:

We seek.

171

:

Take time to be holy.

172

:

The world rushes on.

173

:

Spend much time in secret with Jesus

alone by looking to Jesus like him.

174

:

Thou shall be thy friends and thy

conduct his likeness shall see.

175

:

Take time to be holy.

176

:

Let him be your guide

and run not before him.

177

:

Whatever.

178

:

Be tied, enjoy, or in sorrow,

still follow the Lord and looking

179

:

to Jesus still trust in his word.

180

:

Take time to be holy.

181

:

Be calm in thy soul.

182

:

Each thought and each

motive beneath his control.

183

:

Thus led by his spirit

to fountains of love.

184

:

Thou soon shall be

fitted for service above.

185

:

That hymn was introduced to me by

Bill and Norma Aspen, my dear friends

186

:

back at home, and I sang it many

times with the Orchard Grove Choir.

187

:

It's a great reminder that change

like the seasons is slow, but Sure.

188

:

I promise if you take time.

189

:

To be holy.

190

:

Cleanse your inner temple of the noise

and the distractions of the world.

191

:

Make it sacred space in your

heart and mind for holiness.

192

:

You'll see the blossoms emerge

and your joy will be greater.

193

:

Your capacity to love will increase.

194

:

Make this Easter season a holy week.

195

:

Take time to feel the great love.

196

:

Of Jesus Christ for you personally

because it's of his love for his father,

197

:

but also his love for you and me.

198

:

That he was able to carry out the

will of his father and in a great

199

:

plan of holiness, holiness to be

consecrated, sacred, set apart from

200

:

the ordinary, our holy redeemer.

201

:

And Savior Jesus Christ.

202

:

He lives he has risen.

203

:

Happy Easter, my friends.

204

:

Happy Holy Week.

205

:

Find His Holiness in you.

206

:

I know what's there, and I

will see you on the trail.

About the Podcast

Creative Spiritual Journey
one small, deliberate step at a time
We are all on a journey—a journey home to our heavenly parents. Any experienced traveler knows there are days you laugh and days you cry.

We aren’t here to tell you how to live—we are here to share how we live—how we survive, thrive, and even find joy!

The journey gets messy with rainstorms and sleepless flights but the hard times—the miserable times—those make the best stories.

And the vistas, the sunsets, the little birds outside the window—those are the reminders that God is in the details, he is aware of us, he has trod the path before.

The Creative Spiritual Journey Podcast is hosted by Judy and Ghia Cooley—two sisters in their wisdom years—who love the savior and are dedicated to making this journey one small, deliberate step at a time.
