2

:

my friends.

3

:

Welcome to the Creative

Spiritual Journey podcast.

4

:

I'm Judy Cooley, also known

as Sister Cooley, here in the

5

:

Durban South Africa mission.

6

:

If you listen to last episode, you

know that Gia is here visiting with

7

:

me, her and her husband, and our cousin

Luann are out on an adventure at St.

8

:

Lucia today, as I, um, I'm recording this.

9

:

And it's been super fun to have

them here and to share this

10

:

beautiful country with them.

11

:

So, I'm your host today, your guide,

and I wanna share with you a lesson

12

:

that we learned, GIA and I and our

husbands as we hiked to Gala falls.

13

:

Now, te Gala Falls is in the

Drakensberg Mountains of South Africa.

14

:

They are so beautiful and

we've explored a little bit of

15

:

'em and hope to explore more.

16

:

But we set out early one morning to

hike to Gala Falls, which South Africa,

17

:

claim is the tallest waterfall in the

world, which are actually fighting

18

:

words for Venezuela's Angel Falls.

19

:

Ah, who knows?

20

:

We enjoyed it either way.

21

:

Anyway, so we get up early in the morning

and we get in a bki, which is the South

22

:

African word for truck, and we drive

up this extremely bumpy road to the

23

:

trail head and once at the trail head.

24

:

We started hiking and we saw some

beautiful views out over the valley.

25

:

We saw some beautiful plant life and

the baboons, oh, I'm terrified of

26

:

baboons, but they were fun to watch.

27

:

And that in itself is

another episode, the baboons.

28

:

And we finally got to these, anchored

chain ladders We had heard that on

29

:

this hike there was some chain ladders

up a cliff to see the waterfall.

30

:

Now that in itself keeps a lot

of people from viewing the falls.

31

:

And we finally got to these, And they were

not as scary as I thought they would be.

32

:

And at the bottom of these

ladders, some young adult.

33

:

American tourists were there and they're

saying, oh, the fall's beautiful.

34

:

You're almost there.

35

:

It's just at the top of the ladders.

36

:

Oh, I was surprised.

37

:

This hike was even easier than I imagined.

38

:

So.

39

:

they went on their way down the mountain

and we went up the chain ladders and

40

:

sure enough, there was a waterfall

at the top that we looked across

41

:

a goalie to, and it was beautiful.

42

:

the sunlight was shining through,

casting a rainbow through the waterfall.

43

:

And fortunately we had a map.

44

:

And looking at the map, we

realized this is a false waterfall.

45

:

This is not to gala waterfalls.

46

:

As beautiful as it was, it

certainly didn't look like

47

:

the world's tallest waterfall.

48

:

I've seen taller, I thought.

49

:

And so we knew that we had to walk

across a couple miles across, uh, Mesa.

50

:

And now this trail along

the top of the Mesa was.

51

:

Very well traveled and marked with Cairns.

52

:

There was no question the direction

that we were headed, and there it was.

53

:

We finally got to, to Gala

Falls, and it was beautiful.

54

:

We were actually at the top of

the waterfall looking down and

55

:

across at the mountain range.

56

:

It was a beautiful setting to have

lunch and to visit and to rest.

57

:

And my mind kept going back to these young

American travelers that did not have a map

58

:

that were fooled by the false waterfall.

59

:

They had gotten up early, made all

the effort and work to get to that

60

:

point, feeling they had reached the

end only to turn back, go down and

61

:

miss out on the real destination of

62

:

To Gala Falls.

63

:

So this thought of keeping the end

in mind, sometimes we get stuck on

64

:

life's path because we forget the

goal for which we are striving.

65

:

Just recently in the Come Follow Me,

66

:

We studied doctrine covenants

46 verse seven, and it reads.

67

:

You are commanded in all things to ask

God who giveth liberally, and that which

68

:

the spirit testifies unto you even so I

would, that you should do in all holiness

69

:

of heart walking uprightly before me.

70

:

Considering the end of your salvation.

71

:

I'm gonna stop there.

72

:

Considering the end of the

trail, beginning with the

73

:

end in mind, having a map.

74

:

So back in January, 2024 when we were

in the MTC and had no idea what to

75

:

expect from a mission, in fact, I was

full of all kinds of fear and doubt and,

76

:

and anxiety of, and homesickness and.

77

:

This young MTC instructor had us turn

in, preach my gospel to page 1 55.

78

:

This is in chapter eight

for goals and plans.

79

:

And here they wanted us to take a

few moments to ponder and write about

80

:

our last day in the mission field.

81

:

When the day comes, what do you

want your relationship with Heavenly

82

:

Father and Jesus Christ to be like.

83

:

Well, I would hope that this mission I

would draw nearer to my savior and learn

84

:

more, faith and learn more of my love of

my Heavenly Father and I would be able to

85

:

serve and teach is what I was thinking.

86

:

And then it says, what do

you want to have become?

87

:

I love that question.

88

:

I didn't know how to

answer it at that point.

89

:

And even now.

90

:

I'm still not sure how to answer that.

91

:

Of course, I wanna become

a disciple of Jesus Christ.

92

:

I wanna fulfill the measure of my

creation that not only was I sent to

93

:

South Africa for, but I was sent to this

Earth life for and I want to become.

94

:

Holy.

95

:

I want to become charitable

Christ-like I want to become eternal.

96

:

So consider today how keeping the

end in mind can help you summon

97

:

faith and strength to move forward.

98

:

faith over fear of the ladders

of life strength to move forward

99

:

and not be deceived by the false

waterfalls, the things of the world.

100

:

they make us think, ah, it is good enough.

101

:

But did you know your spiritual growth?

102

:

Your spiritual experiences

have a short shelf life, if not

103

:

renewed daily, they wither away.

104

:

You turn it back and you miss,

you miss out on Te Gala Falls.

105

:

So how do we do this?

106

:

How do we endure to the end?

107

:

How do we consider the

end of our salvation?

108

:

We can first keep the end in

mind when we set spiritual goals,

109

:

physical goals, any goal in life.

110

:

Let's think of will it matter

in the end, in the eternal end?

111

:

And if you have a patriarchal

blessing review that often 'cause

112

:

It will have in there blessings and

promises that will help you along the way.

113

:

Spend some time in the temple,

in the house of the Lord,

114

:

receiving more inspiration,

more light to help you endure.

115

:

Spend time in the scriptures.

116

:

Spend time in prayer and meditation.

117

:

Spend time reviewing the map, making

sure that you're on the right track.

118

:

When life gets tough, it's easy to

look down and to turn back, but the

119

:

key is to look up and to think forward.

120

:

Keeping the end in mind.

121

:

Eternal life with God and our families

can bring us great motivation to press

122

:

forward with a steadfastness in Christ.

123

:

So keep your eternal goals in

the forefront of your mind.

124

:

Today

125

:

Isaiah 41 10, don't be

afraid for I am with you.

126

:

Don't be discouraged for I am your God.

127

:

I will strengthen you and help you.

128

:

I'm gonna add all the way to the end.

129

:

Our prophet president Russell M.

130

:

Nelson said we need to have women who have

the courage and vision of our Mother Eve.

131

:

Mother Eve.

132

:

She definitely had the vision

of the end goal, didn't she?

133

:

When she partook of that fruit,

leaving that comfy garden of Eden

134

:

To set those wills in motion of this

life of mortality so that we, you and

135

:

I could come here, receive bodies,

and learn from our own experiences.

136

:

Just recently on the

podcast, faith Matters.

137

:

I heard an interview with MacArthur

Krishna who wrote the book, change

138

:

Makers, women Who Boldly Built Zion,

139

:

This is such a lovely book.

140

:

I had, um, Luann carry it over here

from the United States for me, and

141

:

it's has some amazing inspiring stories

of the women that helped build Zion.

142

:

And in that book, there is one

story that caught my attention.

143

:

a story of Priscilla Sampson Davis.

144

:

It reads.

145

:

In 1978, the church was

beginning to grow in Ghana, a

146

:

vibrant country in West Africa.

147

:

God had promised the gospel would

be preached in all languages of

148

:

the world, but there was a problem.

149

:

At that point, the Ghanaian

people were not able to be

150

:

taught in their own language.

151

:

In order to fulfill this prophecy,

God sent Priscilla a vision.

152

:

She was standing in the sacrament meeting

and a person dressed all in white.

153

:

Came to her to look at the congregation.

154

:

He pointed out to Priscilla

that her people were not happy.

155

:

She then noticed many of them were

sitting with bowed heads and not

156

:

singing from the English hymn books.

157

:

Of course, English was not their language.

158

:

The person of this vision asked,

Priscilla, wouldn't you like to

159

:

help your brothers and sisters so

they can join in singing the hymns?

160

:

She replied, please.

161

:

I will try.

162

:

Priscilla immediately started to translate

the hymn Redeemer of Israel into her

163

:

native language, but didn't stop there.

164

:

Once she finished all the church

hymns, she wondered if she

165

:

was capable of taking on more.

166

:

Priscilla had read The Book of Mormon was

being translated into other languages.

167

:

She heard a voice whisper.

168

:

Couldn't you do that too?

169

:

Priscilla knew that with God's

help, she could do anything, even

170

:

things she had never done before.

171

:

Priscilla knew members from her

community would grow in their

172

:

testimony of Christ by understanding

the scriptures in their own language.

173

:

So she got to work.

174

:

She translated the Book of Mormon, the

doctrine covenants, the Perla Great

175

:

Price and other missionary materials.

176

:

Isn't that amazing?

177

:

Priscilla's hard work, blessed

millions of people to become happier

178

:

in the gospel and changed the

church by helping fulfill prophecy.

179

:

Now, that is a woman that has

the end in mind to keep going.

180

:

I, I can't imagine how long that took her.

181

:

She said, I always have an eraser with me

because the spirit is always teaching me.

182

:

The prophet president Russell M.

183

:

Nelson has said quote, I encourage

you to begin with the and in mind.

184

:

This means making the celestial

kingdom your eternal goal, and in

185

:

carefully considering where each of

your decisions will here on earth

186

:

will place you in the next world.

187

:

I don't know if you remember

his first address to the church

188

:

as the new prophet he said.

189

:

as a new presidency.

190

:

We want to begin with the

end in mind for this reason.

191

:

We're speaking to you today from a temple.

192

:

The end for which each of us strives

is to be endowed with power in the

193

:

house of the Lord, sealed as families,

faithful to covenants made in the

194

:

temple to qualify us for the greatest

gift of God, that of eternal life and

195

:

maybe if you turned around at the false

waterfalls, he said, if you stepped

196

:

off the covenant path, whatever your

concerns, whatever your challenge is,

197

:

I invite you all with all the hope

in my heart to please come back.

198

:

There is a place for you

in this, the Lord's Church.

199

:

Our personal connection to Jesus

Christ will give us the courage

200

:

and confidence to move forward.

201

:

And when life gets tough and it's

easy to look down or to turn back

202

:

remember, remember my friends

to look up and to think forward.

203

:

Keep your eye on the savior, Jesus Christ.

204

:

and as we move forward

together, on the path.

205

:

Enjoy the waterfalls along the way,

but don't get stuck on the false

206

:

waterfalls, the false riches of the world.

207

:

Don't let Satan deceive you.

208

:

You're much wiser than that.

209

:

Keep pressing forward.

210

:

Have that hope and that perfect

brightness in your heart.

211

:

Always remembering the end, the end goal.

212

:

Play the long game, thanks my

friends for spending your time.

213

:

We know your time is precious.

214

:

We're all so super busy in this life.

215

:

But thanks for taking time to

listen in on the Creative Spiritual

216

:

Journey podcast, And Gia and I

will be back together next week.

217

Town and explore the garden

219

:

220

:

221

:

I.

222

:

That we've explored.

223

:

And if you have a friend who's afraid

to climb those ladders or has been who's

224

:

distracted by those rainbow waterfalls.

225

:

or Who doesn't have a map?

226

About the Podcast

Creative Spiritual Journey
one small, deliberate step at a time
We are all on a journey—a journey home to our heavenly parents. Any experienced traveler knows there are days you laugh and days you cry.

We aren’t here to tell you how to live—we are here to share how we live—how we survive, thrive, and even find joy!

The journey gets messy with rainstorms and sleepless flights but the hard times—the miserable times—those make the best stories.

And the vistas, the sunsets, the little birds outside the window—those are the reminders that God is in the details, he is aware of us, he has trod the path before.

The Creative Spiritual Journey Podcast is hosted by Judy and Ghia Cooley—two sisters in their wisdom years—who love the savior and are dedicated to making this journey one small, deliberate step at a time.
