here on our mission in South Africa.

4

:

I'm your guide for today?

5

:

Small steps Where I share small steps

to help you press forward with Christ

6

:

in this wonderful journey of life.

7

:

Today, small step episode is

scheduled to be posted on May 30th.

8

:

Which is a day of celebration.

9

:

What, what holiday you're asking

if you've listened to any of our

10

:

previous episodes, you know, Ghia.

11

:

She's chosen to walk

deliberately through life.

12

:

She's taking us on a journey of

celebrations and with things of

13

:

nature, like the moon and flowers.

14

:

So in honor of Ghia, Today's small

step is the creation of happiness.

15

:

I want to begin by

wishing a happy birthday.

16

:

The, uh, today is the celebration.

17

:

today's her birthday.

18

:

Her beginning.

19

:

She is my sister-in-law.

20

:

We are both married to

the crazy Coolie boys.

21

:

She's an amazing wife.

22

:

Mother grandmother, auntie.

23

:

And she's my backpacking buddy.

24

:

She's been a river guide.

25

:

She's a maker of bread.

26

:

She's a true homesteader,

a Weaver of baskets.

27

:

She spins wool into yarn.

28

:

She's an herbalist and a naturalist.

29

:

She's also an amazing author

She's an amazing friend.

30

:

And I'm sure what you've noticed listening

to her is that she is a storyteller.

31

:

So as my gift to her for her birthday

is I'm going to tell the story.

32

:

Of the creation of the Zulu people.

33

:

my husband and I Have begun.

34

:

is the Zulu language lessons

and It's been really fun.

35

:

one of the first things she introduced

us to was the creation story.

36

:

of The Zulu the African people.

37

:

And so this is a story that

has been passed down from mouth

38

:

to mouth, from generation.

39

:

Degeneration.

40

:

And it tells how the ancestors

of all the plants and animals.

41

:

And humanity began from a single source.

42

:

So, if you don't mind, I'm going

to read this from Khan academy.

43

:

At first, there was nothing, but

darkness earth was a lifeless rock,

44

:

but in that darkness dwell to God.

45

:

quanty whose voice was like the thunder.

46

:

And when angered would shake

the world with earthquakes.

47

:

And willing to Quani

created a single seed.

48

:

He went to the earth.

49

:

The seed was the very first life

from which all other life descended.

50

:

It landed in the soil and

sprouted into a long read.

51

:

The read, dropped more seeds, which

fell off and grew into even more reads.

52

:

This continued until they covered

a massive swamp in the north.

53

:

The land called

54

:

at the end of one read, there

grew a man whose name was

55

:

Known as the first ancestor.

56

:

The great one.

57

:

Very small.

58

:

At first he grew so large and heavy

that he snapped off the end of

59

:

the Reed walking across the land

of He noticed man and women were

60

:

sprouting at the ends of other reads.

61

:

He picked him up from the reads.

62

:

These people were the first humans,

the ancestors of all nations,

63

:

and they spread across the earth.

64

:

The great one, continued

To walk among the reeds.

65

:

He plucked off a ball of fire and around

glowing stone and flung them into the sky.

66

:

These were the sun and the moon light.

67

:

Came to the world.

68

:

He saw many forms of life growing

at the end of other reads, he

69

:

gathered the fish and flung them

into rivers and fields and forest.

70

:

And they began to grow.

71

:

So we harvested birds and antelope

and they darted Into the wild.

72

:

He picked cattle.

73

:

So they could be used by humans.

74

:

The great one, also plucked

from the reeds fierce lions and

75

:

other beasts that were traveled.

76

:

The lands hunting prey.

77

:

He also harvested a goddess.

78

:

A beautiful woman.

79

:

Maresa.

80

:

A beautiful woman who

created rain and rainbows.

81

:

And who invented farm to give

the zoo the gift of beer.

82

:

one of the final acts of the

great one was the most tragic.

83

:

He plucked the first chameleon off the

Reed and sent it to get the humans, the

84

:

following message, man mess not die.

85

:

with the words of the great one

human would become immortal.

86

:

And fortunately the chameleon

was slow and lazy in his journey.

87

:

And the great one grew in patient and

plucked a different lizard from the read.

88

:

This lizard was fast and quick and arrived

to give the word to the humans, but the

89

:

lizard did not bear the same instructions.

90

:

Instead, this lizard under

the words, men must die.

91

:

So from that day, humans became mortal.

92

:

It is said that chameleons

change colors because they are

93

:

so ashamed, their ancestors were

not fast enough to spare mankind.

94

:

The creation of death.

95

:

Isn't that a beautiful story.

96

:

You can just.

97

:

Imagine.

98

:

The first man and woman

walking through the reeds.

99

:

What's interesting is the word Zulu.

100

:

Actually needs the heavens.

101

:

So the place that we live

in is KwaZulu, natal.

102

:

Which means the place.

103

:

Where the people of the

heavens the Zulus live.

104

:

I'm not going to get into the

creation story that we know also

105

:

well from the scriptures, the Bible,

the book of Moses, the temple.

106

:

As well as, What prophets have said,

and the restored gospel of Jesus Christ.

107

:

I want to talk about

this plan of happiness.

108

:

We all lived in.

109

:

The heavens before we were born.

110

:

That's premortal life with our heavenly

mother and our heavenly father.

111

:

And although this memory

is withheld from us.

112

:

You shouted for joy when given the

privilege of coming to this earth.

113

:

To receive a body and to follow

God's plan of happiness for you.

114

:

Sometimes.

115

:

It's not all that happy.

116

:

There's opposition in this plan.

117

:

There's light and dark and.

118

:

Sorrow and pain as well as joy.

119

:

And we are to learn

from our own experiences

120

:

I want to tell you about an

experience we've had here on

121

:

our mission that involves.

122

:

Birthday celebration.

123

:

So we have made some

beautiful friends here.

124

:

And one of 'em.

125

:

A gentleman, it was his birthday

and he sent a text out to.

126

:

Elder Cooley because

they're like brothers.

127

:

And he just said he wanted to cancel.

128

:

Any meetings this week is C it

was going to be his birthday

129

:

and he was feeling very down.

130

:

Cause he.

131

:

Was feeling a little

despondent about how is life.

132

:

It was going and just.

133

:

wanted to.

134

:

Be left alone.

135

:

And.

136

:

We quickly called some of the

elders that are in his branch

137

:

that he works with and they.

138

:

Called their friends who

called their friends.

139

:

You know, it works.

140

:

And they put together a beautiful

surprise birthday party form.

141

:

We weren't able to be there.

142

:

Because of some other obligations, but

we went to visit him that night and.

143

:

He literally floated out to the car.

144

:

Uh, to tell us about his

birthday celebration.

145

:

And we went in and.

146

:

Gave him our birthday treats and

he, uh, Told us his story and.

147

:

It was very touching.

148

:

Aye.

149

:

Grew to love him even more

150

:

And.

151

:

My empathy For him grew and.

152

:

Has a little boy he never

felt wanted or loved.

153

:

And.

154

:

His birthdays were never celebrated.

155

:

And this was his first.

156

:

Birthday party.

157

:

And.

158

:

That just broke my heart because I

think of all the joys that I've had in

159

:

celebrating our family's birthdays and.

160

:

Loved ones, birthdays

and friends, birthdays.

161

:

And.

162

:

His life certainly.

163

:

Needed to be celebrated.

164

:

And.

165

:

That Taught me a great

lesson that not all of us.

166

:

Understand or get to live this plan

of happiness And it's our duty.

167

:

As one another's brothers and sisters.

168

:

To seek out and find those souls.

169

:

That need to be celebrated.

170

:

So.

171

:

My invitation to you.

172

:

And celebration of Tia's birthday.

173

:

And.

174

:

the Creation of this plan of happiness.

175

:

Go Find joy today.

176

:

Wake up.

177

:

Maybe take some time to roll out of bed.

180

:

Hug someone.

181

:

Go for a walk.

182

:

See, if you can find a beautiful flower.

183

:

Listen to the birds.

184

:

Look up.

185

:

And see at the sky.

186

:

Maybe there's that full moon

still floating in the daylight.

187

:

Maybe create a gift.

188

:

To give to someone.

189

:

Just live today.

190

:

To its fullest.

About the Podcast

Creative Spiritual Journey
one small, deliberate step at a time
We are all on a journey—a journey home to our heavenly parents. Any experienced traveler knows there are days you laugh and days you cry.

We aren’t here to tell you how to live—we are here to share how we live—how we survive, thrive, and even find joy!

The journey gets messy with rainstorms and sleepless flights but the hard times—the miserable times—those make the best stories.

And the vistas, the sunsets, the little birds outside the window—those are the reminders that God is in the details, he is aware of us, he has trod the path before.

The Creative Spiritual Journey Podcast is hosted by Judy and Ghia Cooley—two sisters in their wisdom years—who love the savior and are dedicated to making this journey one small, deliberate step at a time.
